3D CT Scan

To see is to know, not to see is to guess…and we won’t guess about your dental health.

At Coast Family Dental Currimundi we have invested in our local community. We believe our patients deserve the best dental care and access to the latest dental technology at affordable prices!

We are excited to announce we provide 3D x-ray dental imaging, otherwise known as Cone Beam Volumetric Tomography (CBVT). There is no need for a separate second visit to an imaging center! This will ultimately save you time, travel and money.

Cone beam technology provides advanced imaging of the face, jaw, and teeth. This technology allows our team of dentists to provide enhanced diagnosis and better treatment outcomes for their patients. Conventional 2D dental imaging will not always be sufficient to provide you with optimal dental care.

Applications for the use of this incredible technology includes but is not limited to dental implant planning and placement, safe removal of impacted wisdom teeth, negotiation of complex or unusual root canal anatomy, orthodontic planning, diagnosis and 3D visualization of dental pathology and trauma.

Cone Beam technology is fast becoming the standard of care within the dental industry!

Our 3D x-ray images are analyzed and reported on by independent highly trained and specialized Dento-Maxillofacial Radiologists. This provides our patients with clarity, assurance, and accuracy regarding their dental needs.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a 3D CT scan in dentistry?

A 3D CT scan (also called a CBCT scan) is a detailed imaging tool that creates a 3D view of your teeth, jaw, nerves, and surrounding structures. It gives your dentist a much clearer picture than standard X-rays. This helps with more accurate diagnosis and treatment planning.

Why might I need a 3D CT scan?

We may recommend a 3D CT scan for more complex dental concerns such as dental implants, wisdom teeth assessment, root canal planning, or jaw issues. It allows us to see fine details that aren’t visible on regular X-rays, helping us plan treatment safely and precisely.

Is a 3D CT scan safe?

Yes, 3D dental CT scans use a low dose of radiation and are only taken when necessary. Your dentist will always weigh up the benefits and ensure it is the most appropriate imaging option for your situation.

Does a 3D CT scan hurt?

No, the scan is completely painless and non-invasive. You simply sit still while the scanner rotates around your head for a short period of time, usually under a minute.

How long does the scan take?

The actual scan is very quick, often taking less than a minute. Your appointment may be slightly longer to allow for preparation and positioning, but the imaging itself is fast and efficient.

Do I need a referral for a 3D CT scan?

In most cases, your dentist will arrange the scan for you if it is needed as part of your treatment plan. No external referral is usually required when you are already a patient at the clinic.

What is the benefit of 3D imaging over regular X-rays?

3D imaging provides a full, detailed view of your oral structures rather than a flat 2D image. This helps improve accuracy for diagnosis and can make treatments like implants and extractions safer and more predictable.

Will Medicare or private health cover the scan?

Coverage can vary depending on your private health fund and treatment plan. Our team can help you check your eligibility and explain any out-of-pocket costs before proceeding.
