    Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS)?

The Child Dental Benefits Schedule is a Medicare program that helps eligible children access basic dental care. Eligible kids may receive up to $1,158 in dental benefits over two consecutive calendar years for treatments like check-ups, cleans, x-rays, fillings, and extractions.

How do I know if my child is eligible for free kids dental?

Children aged 2 to 17 who are eligible for Medicare and whose family receives certain government payments, such as Family Tax Benefit Part A, may qualify. Our team can quickly check your child’s eligibility for you with your Medicare details.

What dental treatments are covered under the CDBS?

The scheme generally covers essential dental services including examinations, cleans, x-rays, fissure seals, fillings, root canal treatment, and extractions. Cosmetic and orthodontic treatments are not included under the program.

Will there be any out-of-pocket costs?

At Coast Family Dental, eligible children receiving treatment under the CDBS are bulk billed for covered services. This means there are typically no out-of-pocket expenses for approved treatments within the available benefit limit.

Do I need a referral to book a kids dental appointment?

No referral is needed. You can contact our team directly to book an appointment or ask us to check your child’s eligibility before booking.

Why are regular dental visits important for children?

Regular dental check-ups help identify issues early before they become more serious or uncomfortable. They also support healthy oral habits and help children feel more confident and comfortable visiting the dentist as they grow.

What should I expect at my child’s first dental visit?

We aim to make every child’s appointment calm, friendly, and positive. The first visit usually includes a gentle examination, a discussion about oral hygiene habits, and recommendations to help keep growing smiles healthy.

Can my child still visit if they aren’t eligible for the CDBS?

Absolutely. We welcome all children and families to our clinic, regardless of CDBS eligibility. Our team can discuss suitable treatment options and costs with you before any treatment begins.
